Carnival: Noche de las Mantillas

Comodin held a Carnival event last night. Noche de las Mantillas. The night of the veils. It was lovely, of course. The venue is smaller, and it was crazy crowded and hot as usual. Most of the drag was absolutely amazing. I got the impression the idea of mantillas is more than just putting a veil on. Of course, there was a literal wedding dress. But many of the outfits involved those complicated headpieces traditionally worn by Spanish women. And there were a few guys in traditional male dress.

One highlight was meeting a queen from London. She was kitted out in a very mod black and white vinyl number with matching hat. Her Dame Edna-esque glasses with the rhinestones were great.

Unfortunately we left before things really got started. It was hot and crowded and the partner had to work today. Ah well. Tonight is Noche de las Touristas at Locacola. And I think we may actually dress for this one.
