Two Test Cases for the Episcopal Church

In July the Episcopal church enacted new legislation to consecrate openly gay bishops. According to the Huffington Post, now one lesbian and one gay priest have been nominated for assistant bishop positions. From the Huffington Post:

An openly gay priest and an openly lesbian priest are among six nominees for assistant bishop positions in the Episcopal Church's Diocese of Los Angeles.

The church announced Sunday that Rev. John L. Kirkley of San Francisco and Rev. Canon Mary Douglas Glasspool of Maryland, along with four others, will be up for election in December by lay members and clergy.

Of course, if they are confirmed it could cause a major rift in the church. Back in 2003 when Rev. V. Gene Robinson was elected, four dioceses and several parishes separated from the Episcopal church. Now the haters have another excuse to break away.
