There's a Web site. It's worth checking out.

It's true I've heard the same examples he talks about in this video over and over. This robtish guy is another bright star in my personal heaven. He tackles the lies and bigotry with a calm and clarity that I'm lack. I get the impression he's not at all anti-christian. In fact he may have some affiliation with the Hollywood United Methodist Church as some of his activism has taken place there. 

It's a little difficult for me to imagine a church where all people are accepted and loved. I wish my experience with a certain United Methodist Church involved acceptance and love. Well, actually I felt a lot of love from people at the church in which I grew up. But I also saw a lot of hate. And I knew that if I had been out to those people, that love would have been withdrawn. 

It was the kind of place where African Americans we're encouraged to visit (in fact I can remember one example of a minister being fired in part for inviting Black people). Another minister was run out of town on a proverbial rail for being accused of seeking sex with another man. 

Yes, I knew to keep my mouth shut in that environment. And even that didn't stop all of the abuse. What can you do when suspicion equals sin? Is it any wonder that many gays reject religion?

You Look Like the Right Type

How about something positive?

While I tend to use my blog to spread the word about some of the negativity around the world this guy uses his to share a little bit of beauty every day. You Look Like the Right Type is a blog by one of my oldest friends. Seriously, I've known this guy since I was too young to remember. He takes little snippets from overheard dialogue and turns them into little graphic pictures of the human condition. They end up being funny, sweet, and often engaging. 

Something about them always makes me build a little tableau in my mind. Hey, it's not curing cancer, but it is a way of making the world a better place in a small human way. I like it anyway. And it is worth checking out on a regular basis. 

Eat Her

I saw this blog called getthatlook over at Slog and immediately thought of Ad Astra. 

My only complaint is the use of @'s in place of o's. It makes me want to pronounce it "get that laaaack." 

I should warn you some of the posts are NSFW. Some are utterly bizarre. Some of them are so cute they could induce a diabetic coma. Some of them are delicious. The captions are marvelously sarcastic. 

Don't worry, if you go back into the archives far enough they start just being about lamps, so you won't waste too much time on this one. Enjoy.
